Set in the turbulent year of 1971, at the peak of Brazil’s oppressive military regime, this powerful story centers on the Paiva family Rubens, his wife Eunice, and their five children who reside in a welcoming beachfront home in Rio de Janeiro. Known for their warmth and hospitality, their home becomes a haven for friends, artists, and thinkers in a time when freedom is slipping through the nation’s fingers.
Their peaceful life is shattered when Rubens, a former congressman associated with the Brazilian Labour Party (PTB), is abruptly taken by the authorities for questioning. What begins as an official summons soon turns into a nightmare Rubens never returns, and no one provides answers. Left to face the uncertainty alone, Eunice Paiva finds herself thrown into a harrowing quest for truth.
With no support from the state and constant fear of surveillance, she takes on the role of both protector and seeker fighting to uncover what happened to her husband while striving to hold her fractured family together. As she navigates government silence, censorship, and growing danger, her story becomes one of quiet resistance and maternal strength in the face of dictatorship.
